AMSOIL coined the phrase “extended drain interval” in 1972. Many oil companies have since introduced synthetic motor oils of their own recommended for use beyond 3,000 miles. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have also been raising recommended oil drain intervals, some up to 15,000 miles or higher when stated by an oil life monitoring system.
