Q: Is the driving factor for the new specifications emissions, fuel economy or both? What oil brand is not meeting Fords wear tests?
A: he EPA is placing tighter requirements on emissions and fuel economy for diesel-powered vehicles. Improvements in both areas are two goals of the new CK-4 and FA-4 specifications. The other goals include stronger oxidation stability, better shear stability and increased resistance to aeration.
We are unsure at this time which products Ford experienced some increased wear in their 6.7L Powerstroke engine. We can only assume that they tested some products that could be found on the retail shelf and discovered this issue.
AMSOIL is well positioned with all of our diesel oil products. We exceed the requirements of the new Ford specification and will ensure that when Ford finally releases the 6.7L Powerstroke engine test we put our products to the test and demonstrate exceptional protection. You can be totally confident recommending our diesel oils for Power Stroke engines. We are claiming the new Ford F1 specification on all the new CK-4 oils except Signature Series Max-Duty 5W-30. We are going to await the engine test to demonstrate our performance before we adopt that specification on the label for that product. We are very comfortable with the design of our 5W-30 and are confident it will pass.
